The city
of Victoria, on Vancouver Island, has so much going for it - great weather, history,
countless attractions and a large selection of both unique yet affordable Victoria bed
and breakfasts. No wander this is one of Canada's favourite cities!
The Weather in Victoria
It's true, Victoria has great weather! So great in fact, that this is the one of the
sunniest cities in Canada with over 2,200 hours of
sunshine per year. And, despite Vancouver Island's reputation for being
very wet, Victoria actually has one of the driest summers when compared to major cities
in the rest of the country. This combined with the mild year-round temperatures makes
Victoria a great city to visit at any time of the year.
Victoria Attractions
If the weather in Victoria wasn't enough of an attraction for you, wait until you hear
about all the great things you can do here!
For starters, Victoria is one of the whale watching capitals of the world. Many
whale watching tour companies operate out of Victoria
during the summer months when you have a very good chance of spotting a whale pod. During
the rest of the year boat tours are also popular as you have the chance of seeing
numerous other forms of marine and land-based wildlife and
birds which make Victoria and surrounds their home. Some of these tour
companies will happily collect you directly from your Victoria bed and breakfast which is
very handy for those visitors without a car!
Victoria is famous for being a very 'British' city and you'll find evidence of its
British ancestry in many places around the city. The famous Craigdarroch Castle for example was built by a Scottish family and
modeled on a Scottish castle! There's the Inner Harbour with the impressive
Fairmont Empress Hotel and the BC Legislative Building which you can take a tour of.
For visitors who enjoy gardens, Victoria is nicknamed the Garden
City as you'll find many fine gardens here including Butchart Gardens, just north of the city, plus there's the
Abkhazi Gardens and many public parks around the city
too.
Victoria is also a great city for visitors who love shopping! You can find a diverse
range of shops here, from those which wouldn't look out of place in the streets of old
London, selling china, tea and British souvenirs, to designer boutiques and modern
shopping malls. You're bound to find a unique or quirky gift for your friends and family
back home!
Victoria Bed and Breakfasts
