It’s hard to believe that prior to 1966 the ski resort at Whistler didn’t
exist, but look at it now! Whistler has grown to become one of the most famous ski
resorts in the world and when it combined with neighbouring Blackcomb in 1997, Whistler
Blackcomb became the largest single ski area in North America.
But, Whistler isn’t just about skiing and winter sports; it’s fast becoming a
year round destination with many other attractions on offer too. As a result you’ll
find a great many Whistler Bed and Breakfasts are now open throughout the year to cater
for the increasing number of non-winter visitors.
The Weather in Whistler
With such a focus on the great snow conditions at Whistler, it’s easy to forget
that Whistler actually experiences some very pleasant summers too! The average daily high
in August is 23.5C and even during the winter the temperatures here remain quite mild due
to its proximity to the coast and the Pacific Ocean.
Whistler Attractions
Yes, Whistler has some excellent winter sports attractions though with the mountains and
the beautiful surroundings there are also many summer activities to enjoy too. Mountain
Biking has become extremely popular here and Whistler has its own specially designed bike
park. Take the chair lift up the mountain to experience the best trails, high speeds and
adrenalin-pumping jumps! And what’s great is that many Whistler Bed and Breakfasts
are nice and close to the bike park, making access easy.
If you prefer to use your feet rather than wheels to get around Whistler you’ll
find there are also many great hiking trails in the area. You don’t have to be an
expert hiker to be able to enjoy all the trails though; in fact, many of the more local
Whistler trails are suitable for families and casual walkers, though there are longer and
more difficult trails for those who desire them. You can find out about the hiking trails
from Tourism Whistler, or your Whistler Bed and Breakfast hosts will no doubt be able to
point you in the right direction.
Another great way to get up close and personal with the stunning scenery in the Whistler
area is by rock climbing. There are several opportunities within the city limits
themselves and many more in the surrounding area.
Whistler Bed and Breakfasts
After a long day experiencing all that the area has to offer, you’ll be thankful
for the home comforts of a Whistler Bed and Breakfast! Accommodation in Whistler is
generally of a very high quality and standard and is particularly well suited to those
visitors who prefer to pay a little more for a luxurious experience. Having said this,
there are also Whistler bed and breakfasts at the budget end as well, so really
there’s something to suit all tastes and budgets here.
